How to Turn Off Drl on 2007 Vw Jetta

'06 Jetta: How can I disable DRL?

I find DRL incredibly annoying for a variety of reasons. I asked a shop to disable them for me and they said that though they knew how to, they wouldn't be able to do it because it was a "safety issue".

Can someone tell me how I can do it?

If you know someone in your area that has a vag-com they should be able to do it for you. If you don't go on vwvortex.com, to the forums. Navigate to the regionals section and make a post in the section of your respective region asking for someone who will help you. Or if you're around the Baltimore, MD or Dover, DE area I can do it for you.

Could you list the reasons why you hate them?

My biggest reasons:

  1. I know when I need to turn my lights on to be safe, even to other drivers on the road. 12 noon in bright sunlight isn't it. I am a technical person; I want that control. I don't want it done for me.

  2. With DRL, it becomes difficult to warn other drivers of things ahead like speed traps, etc. Always-on headlights means I can't even flash them off. What do I do? Flash between my DRL and brights to oncoming traffic? That doesn't seem safe.

  3. The studies on DRL as a matter of safety are very inconsistent, which is why they aren't mandatory in the US. I would like to be on the side of the argument of my choosing.

  4. Longer life of bulbs, housing, etc.

  5. My car is black, which means I'm probably more visible in most cases by default except for the case of a nighttime scenario where I start from a well-lit area like a mall and forget to turn my lights on and drive off into the night.

can you not do the bend-the-pin trick on the mk5s?

I believe it is possible without vagcom. Try this:

  1. Get in car

  2. Close door

  3. Insert key into ignition, but do not turn the engine on, nor put the key in the "on" spot.

  4. Using the turn signal lever, signal left while pulling the stalk towards you, then turn the key to the "on" position. Your car should make a DING noise. Then put key back to normal off position and re-do. After 6 dings, the DRLs turn off.

I'm not 100% of this method, but it woulnd't hurt to try! Report back if it works please

Never heard if this but I'm curious if it actually works. Ill try it on my GLI to see if it works

You can do it with VAG-COM if you have it or know someone who does, or you can remove your headlight switch and cover the DRL pin with electrical tape. That's how I did it for my GTI (2000, mkiv) - I can disable mine via VAG-COM.
